California Online Public Schools does not collect any personal information unless you voluntarily provide it by sending us an e-mail, participating in a survey, or completing an on-line form. We may disclose your personal information without notice if it is necessary to: (1) comply with legal process/action; (2) protect and defend the rights or property of the school and; (3) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of our students and staff or members of the public. We may also disclose personal information to non-affiliated third party partners, such as advertising partners and analytics providers, to assist us in providing, communicating, marketing and advertising our services to you. Otherwise, personal information submitted will not be disclosed to any non-affiliated third parties unless otherwise stated at the time of collection and will only be used for the purpose stated at the time of collection. The school does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties.
Information You Provide to Us
To communicate effectively with visitors to our website, we may ask you for personally identifiable information that can include, by way of illustration, your name, your child’s name, address, email address, telephone number, or educational interests. We may also gather additional personal information in the future. It is your choice to provide us with this personal information; we will only collect personal information that you provide.
Information Gathered Automatically

In the case of a student’s personal information, the school will seek consent from the student and/or parent depending on the circumstances and will consider the student’s mental ability and maturity to understand the consequences of the proposed use and disclosure. Any personally identifiable information from student education records will only be disclosed in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Non-secured Communications
Posts to discussion forums, discussion boards, and comments to blogs, are viewable by other users. When these areas are not in a password protected area, they may be viewable by the general public. Please be aware of this when posting personal information in these areas.
