Connecting Through Stories at CalOPS
At California Online Public Schools (CalOPS), building a strong, supportive community goes beyond the classroom. On November 6, 2025, families and staff from across our school community came together for a special virtual event, What’s in a Name, designed to spark connection, conversation and belonging.
This engaging session created a space for caretakers and educators to connect in meaningful ways—sharing stories, learning from one another and strengthening the relationships that make our community unique.
What’s in a Name?
Our names are often the first thing we learn about each other, but they can also hold so much more meaning. During this session, participants explored the stories, histories and significance behind their names, opening the door to deeper understanding and connection.
Strengthening Our Virtual Community
In an online learning environment, creating intentional spaces for connection is essential. Events like What’s in a Name reflect our ongoing commitment to fostering belonging, not just for students, but for families as well.
By bringing caretakers and staff together, these sessions help build trust, encourage collaboration and create a sense of shared community across our virtual campus.
Trading Traditions
The conversation didn’t stop there. CalOPS continued to offer families community-building sessions designed to bring people together in authentic and engaging ways.Â
In January 2026, families were invited to join the session, Trading Traditions. This event focused on sharing the meaningful practices and traditions that shape our lives—whether it’s a New Year’s ritual, a favorite birthday outing or a special family custom.
It was another opportunity to connect, learn and celebrate the diverse experiences that make our community so special.Â
Join the CalOPS Community
At CalOPS, we believe that strong connections create stronger learning experiences. Our family engagement events are designed to reflect the voices, interests and needs of our community—creating opportunities for everyone to feel included and valued.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and building spaces where every story matters.
